Greg Meehan ’01 serves as assistant coach for the º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Olympic swimming team

As Team USA vies for medals in Paris at this year's Olympic Games, Greg Meehan ’01 will once again help lead the nation's best swimmers in showcasing their athleticism.
Meehan has been appointed an assistant coach for º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Swimming. The 2024 Games are Meehan's third, having previously traveled to Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, where he also served as an assistant coach, and Tokyo for the pandemic-postponed 2020 Games as head coach of the º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ women’s swim team. In Tokyo, he led the team to a leading 18 medals, including three gold.
The Rider º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ Hall of Famer has coached and mentored swimmers for more than two decades, including legend Katie Ledecky and the first African American woman to win an individual Olympic medal in swimming, Simone Manuel. He currently serves as the Paul A. Violich Director of Women’s Swimming at Stanford University. Meehan led the Cardinals to their first national title in 19 years in 2017, beginning a three-year championship run for the team.
At Rider, Meehan graduated with a bachelor’s in mathematics and secondary education. As a student, he swam the second-fastest 200 backstroke, the third-fastest 100 backstroke and the fifth-fastest 1,000 freestyle at that time. He was a four-time All-Academic team member and swam on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) champion relay team.
