The event is part of the University’s 2020 Business of Media Lecture Series
Activist, scholar and writer Angela Y. Davis will be a featured speaker in the 2020 Business of Media Lecture Series at ߲ݴý on Oct. 7 at noon.
The topic of her lecture is "Media and the Movements: Civil Rights to Black Lives Matter.”
Davis is the Distinguished Professor Emerita of History of Consciousness and Feminist Studies at the University of California Santa Cruz, a founding member of Critical Resistance, which seeks to promote alternatives to what it calls the "Prison Industrial Complex," and the author of 10 books.
Time magazine recently named Davis to its list of the 100 most influential people of 2020. In his reflection of Davis in the magazine, Common wrote, "Her legacy is timeless; rooted in her truth, it encourages future generations to be courageous."
The Business of Media Lecture series is made possible through the generous support of Rob Hagedorn ’81. It is also supported by Rider’s Center for the Business of Media.
Previous presenters have included editor-in-chief emeritus of Essence magazine Susan L. Taylor, Silicon Valley visionary Jaron Lanier and Comcast Senior Executive Vice President David Cohen.
The event is sponsored by Rider’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Trio, in collaboration with the student group Tapestry, which provides opportunities to foster reflection of the cultural and life experiences of underrepresented populations.
"Media and the Movements: Civil Rights to Black Lives Matter," a lecture by Angela Y. Davis, will take place virtually on Oct. 7 at noon. The event is open only to Rider campus community.
